HMV Group


HMV Group operates from approximately 692 shops in 7 countries and total retail floor space of 3.6 million square feet (following the disposal of HMV Japan)


For the full year ended April 2008, HMV Group had a turnover of £1,936.1 million (FY April 2007 £1,894.5 million) and an operating profit of £66.2 million (FY April 2007: £54.0 million)


HMV UK & Ireland sold 94 million CD and DVD units and Waterstone's 75 million books in the FY ended April 2008

HMV UK & Ireland
HMV UK & Ireland operates from 272 stores, as at April 2009
Sales in HMV UK & Ireland for the full year ended April 2009 were £1,154.6 million (FY April 2008: £1,079.0 million) and operating profit was £53.7 million (FY April 2008: £41.4 million)
Music represents 28% of HMV UK & Ireland sales, DVD 45% and games and technology 24% (other related products 3%)as at the full year ended April 2009

HMV International
HMV International operates from 129 stores and a total 566,000 sq ft, as at April 2008
HMV is Canada’s market leading music retailer
Sales in HMV International for the full year ended April 2008 were £231.6 million (FY April 2007: £215.1 million) and operating profit was £8.5 million (FY April 2007 £13.4 million)
HMV Canada's largest product category is DVD at 47% of sales for the full year ended April 2008, with music 44%, games and technology 8% and others 2%
HMV Canada received the Canadian Music Industry Awards Retail Chain of the Year for the 20th successive year in 2008
HMV operates from six stores in Hong Kong and two stores in Singapore, over a total 58,500 sq ft

Waterstone's
Waterstone’s operates from 314 stores over 1.8 million square feet (as at April 2009)
Waterstone’s also trades as Hatchards (London) and Hodges Figgis (Dublin), and operates two specialist English-language bookshops in the Netherlands (Amsterdam) and Belgium (Brussels)
On sales of £548.3 million (FY April 2008: £564.3 million), Waterstone’s recorded an operating profit of £10.0 million (FY April 2008: £16.3 million) for the full year ended April 2009
Some 50% of Waterstone’s sales are made from titles ranked 5,000 and below in the list of best-selling books
